Traveling. Travel emergencies. Unexpected stops. Wedding planning. Meals at restaurants. My last couple of days have been a whirlwind of activity, which is why I’m recapping the highlights of the past few days.Thursday, May 24th – a travel day for me. I knew I would be extremely busy during my time at the conference, so I booked a return trip that would allow me to sleep in, as well as lay-overs with enough time between flights to relax. I hate short lay-overs. There is always something that can happen. I picked up some snacks in the DC airport – my go-to salty/sweet KIND bars and some Food Should Taste Good chips – prior to my flight to Detroit. This was a good thing. I got a salad for lunch at the airport, and settled into my flight to LAX. You know how on TV shows, the flight attendant comes over the PA system as asks, “If there are any doctors on board, can you please come to the [random section of airplane]?” That happened. Twice. Very long story short, we diverted to Phoenix and I missed my connection from LAX. So, the snacks I got in DC helped me from starving at 30,000 feet in the air. The airline got me a hotel room, and I was able to find shrimp tacos for dinner at the hotel bar. Thankfully, no issues.
Friday, May 25th – a down day for me. The airline rescheduled my flight for mid-morning, so I didn’t have time to get breakfast at the hotel or airport – and namely, didn’t trust the options. Getting home allowed me to have a great and safe gluten-free meal. My mother came in for my fiancée’s bridal shower, so we went out to dinner at Elephant Bar for dinner. While their gluten-free meal options are fine and don’t pose any problems for me, they aren’t that good tasting. The flavors are very off, and yet the meals are bland too.
Saturday, May 26th – a planned “guy’s day” today, as the girls were going to be at the bridal shower. However, we got invited along as well, so I grabbed my stash of KIND Bars in case I couldn’t eat, and went over to the shower. Thankfully, I was able to have salad and fruit at the shower, and it was a blast. I’ve never been to a bridal shower, but my fiancée’s sister and family hosted a great party.
Sunday, May 27th – a day bookended by food. The first meal was at Asian Box, and I brought a lot of people with me. I love this place so much, I can’t wait until they open a restaurant in Walnut Creek later this year. Afterwards, we went to Kara’s Cupcakes just down from Asian Box. Now, I love cupcakes. However, I’m on the fence about Kara’s. Their gluten-filled cupcakes are delicious, so I’ve heard, but I’m concerned with their gluten-free options. Review post soon. After visiting the wedding venue so my mother and soon-to-be sister-in-law could see it in person, we ate at Black Angus for dinner. (See my review of Black Angus here.)
Monday, May 28th – a rest day. Seriously. Sleeping in until 1:00 pm kinda dictates that. So, today was cleaning, organizing, and getting ready for the week. I also made gluten-free funfetti cookies for my fiancée, as her birthday is tomorrow. Used Gluten-Free Mama’s sugar cookie mix and added sprinkles. Turned out pretty well – post/pictures to be up…later.
Cheers!

I read that you got a salad at the airport…how did you know that the dressing was gluten free? Or did you not use the dressing?
Hey Tiffany. I didn’t have the dressing this time around, but I’ve found most vinaigrette dressings to be gluten-free. Just make sure to read the label or ask.
